BMW Group and Tata Technologies have officially announced the establishment of an automotive software and IT development hub, spanning across Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This collaborative venture is set to deliver cutting-edge automotive software, including software-defined vehicle (SDV) solutions tailored for BMW Group’s premium vehicles, along with digital transformation solutions for its business IT infrastructure.
Commencing with an initial team of 100 employees, the joint venture aims to expand significantly in the coming years, reaching a four-digit workforce. This expansion underscores the commitment of both companies to leverage India’s rich talent pool in software engineering.
Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Software and E/E Architecture at BMW Group, emphasized India’s abundance of skilled software professionals, highlighting their potential contribution to the group’s software competence. He underscored the opportunity for Indian engineers to play a pivotal role in shaping advanced automotive experiences, particularly in fields such as highly automated driving and artificial intelligence.
The operational focus of the joint venture will primarily be centered in Bengaluru and Pune, with Chennai concentrating on business IT solutions. Leveraging Tata Technologies’ digital engineering expertise and talent pool in India, the JV aims to enhance BMW Group’s software coding capabilities across global IT hubs and ensure round-the-clock operations.
