Karunakar Das assumes role as Executive Director of NTPC Bongaigaon

Karunakar Das, formerly Chief General Manager of NTPC Bongaigaon, has been promoted to the position of Executive Director, effective from March 1, 2024. Das had previously taken charge as Chief General Manager of NTPC Bongaigaon on October 3, 2022.

With a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from NIT Rourkela, Das began his career journey as an Executive Trainee with NTPC in 1986. Over the years, he has showcased exemplary leadership and expertise across various crucial portfolios and power stations.

Before assuming the role of Chief General Manager at NTPC Bongaigaon in October 2022, Das held significant positions at NTPC Korba, Unchahar, Talcher Thermal, Talcher Kaniha, and Farakka. His extensive experience in areas such as Operation and Maintenance, Fuel Handling, and Fuel Management has played a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and efficiency within the organization.

As Chief General Manager, Das played a vital role in overseeing the operations and maintenance of NTPC Farakka and Bongaigaon, demonstrating strategic vision and leadership acumen. His dedication to safety, optimization of power plant efficiency, and implementation of best practices has been commendable throughout his career. Under his leadership, NTPC Bongaigaon now ranks among the top three stations in NTPC in terms of PEM and among the top 10 stations in terms of Safety Evaluation Matrix.

In his new role as Executive Director, Das remains committed to delivering reliable and efficient power supply to the nation under NTPC’s mandate. His extensive experience and training in safety, human resources, and commercial aspects uniquely position him to lead NTPC towards achieving its strategic objectives and further strengthening its position as a leader in the power sector.
