In a major push towards clean energy adoption and rural empowerment, Aditya Aluminium Pvt. Ltd., Lapanga, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) to implement rooftop solar projects in 44 villages under the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The MoU was exchanged between Jagannath Nayak, Unit Head, Aditya Aluminium, Lapanga, and Parveen Verma, CEO, TPWODL, at the Zilla Parishad office in Sambalpur on Saturday. The event was attended by Prasanna Patra, CDO-cum-EO, Zilla Parishad, Sambalpur; Gulshan Tiwari, CPP Head; Jyoti Muduli; members of Aditya Aluminium’s CSR team; and senior officials of TPWODL.

The initiative seeks to accelerate rooftop solar adoption among economically weaker households through TPWODL’s ULA model under the flagship PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Supported through Aditya Aluminium’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, eligible families will gain access to clean, reliable and affordable solar energy, enabling them to substantially reduce their monthly electricity bills while contributing to environmental sustainability.

As part of the collaboration, 44 villages across six Gram Panchayats in the vicinity of Aditya Aluminium’s plant have been identified for implementation. In the first phase, rooftop solar systems will be installed in RR Colony, Ludhapali, and RR Colony, Pondloi villages, covering 336 eligible households.

Aditya Aluminium’s CSR support will cover the beneficiary contribution required under the scheme, making rooftop solar installations accessible to low-income families and ensuring wider participation in the renewable energy transition.

Speaking on the occasion, Jagannath Nayak said, “We are pleased to partner with TPWODL in promoting rooftop solar adoption. This initiative will improve access to clean energy, lower household electricity expenses, and empower communities to build a more sustainable and energy-secure future.”

Parveen Verma said, “We are delighted to collaborate with Aditya Aluminium in extending the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana to rural households. The initiative will help eligible families reduce their electricity expenses while supporting sustainable development. We appreciate Aditya Aluminium’s commitment towards community welfare and environmental stewardship.”

Welcoming the initiative, Prasanna Patra described it as a transformative step towards bringing renewable energy directly to rural households. He expressed confidence that while around 300 households will benefit initially, the programme could expand to nearly 3,000 households in the coming years as the remaining identified villages are covered in a phased manner.

The partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing renewable energy adoption in western Odisha while promoting inclusive and sustainable development at the grassroots level.
