Marking a landmark
chapter in its 90-year journey and setting the stage for the centenary of radio
broadcasting in India in 2027, Akashvani on Wednesday inaugurated 'Swar Prerna
Veethika', a permanent photo gallery dedicated to the legendary musicians whose
enduring association has shaped the country's rich musical and broadcasting
heritage.
The gallery was
inaugurated by Hariprasad Chaurasia at the Akashvani Rang Bhavan Auditorium in
Akashvani Bhavan, New Delhi.
Conceived as a
tribute to the inseparable bond between Akashvani and India's iconic artistes,
Swar Prerna Veethika celebrates musicians who remained closely associated with
the national broadcaster and were honoured with the country's highest civilian
awards. The initiative aims to preserve their invaluable artistic legacy while
inspiring future generations of musicians and music enthusiasts.
In its inaugural
phase, the gallery showcases portraits of 20 eminent maestros spanning
Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, folk traditions, instrumental music,
playback singing and dance.
Among those honoured
are Bharat Ratna recipients M. S. Subbulakshmi, Ravi Shankar, Lata Mangeshkar,
Bismillah Khan, Bhimsen Joshi and Bhupen Hazarika.
The gallery also pays
homage to Padma Vibhushan awardees including Hariprasad Chaurasia, Amjad Ali
Khan and Allauddin Khan, besides several Padma Bhushan recipients such as Hafiz
Ali Khan, Birju Maharaj, Ahmed Jan Thirakwa, Krishnarao Shankar Pandit, Shanno
Khurana, Debu Chaudhuri, Sharan Rani Backliwal, Sabri Khan, Rajan Mishra, Sajan
Mishra, Asad Ali Khan and Mushtaq Husain Khan.

said the public broadcaster has consistently provided generations of artistes
with a platform to reach audiences across the nation. He also highlighted
Akashvani's expanding digital presence through its dedicated 24x7 music
channels, 'Raagam' for Hindustani classical music and 'Aaradhana' for
devotional music, available on YouTube, the News-on-Air app and the WAVES OTT
platform.
Describing the
occasion as a "homecoming", Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia fondly recalled
that his association with Akashvani began through its Children's Programme.
Calling the broadcaster a family that has nurtured generations of musicians, he
expressed confidence that its rich cultural tradition would continue to
flourish and receive the affection of listeners across the country.
The ceremony
concluded on a memorable musical note with an evocative flute recital by Rupak
Kulkarni, one of Pt. Chaurasia's foremost disciples and an internationally
acclaimed exponent of the Maihar Gharana. A top-grade Akashvani artiste,
Kulkarni's soulful performance, presented in the presence of his revered Guru,
drew warm appreciation from the audience.
