South Africa’s Tshepo Jason Tyantini and Tamil Nadu’s Abinaya
Rajarajan emerged as the fastest sprinters at the World Athletics Continental
Tour Silver Level Meeting at the Kalinga Stadium here on Saturday, as
international competitors and India’s leading track and field athletes produced
a series of impressive performances.
The 21-year-old Tyantini underlined his sprinting credentials
by clinching the men’s 100m gold in 10.11 seconds. Oman’s Ali Al Balushi
finished second in 10.16 seconds, while Sri Lanka’s Dineth Induwara W clocked
10.27 seconds for the bronze.
Odisha’s home favourite Animesh Kujur, however, could not
make the medal podium, finishing sixth in 10.32 seconds. India’s national
record holder in the men’s 100m, Punjab’s Gurindervir Singh, finished ninth in
10.39 seconds.
In the women’s 100m, promising Tamil Nadu sprinter Abinaya
Rajarajan took the honours in 11.34 seconds. Maharashtra’s Harita Bhadra was
second in 11.46, while Karnataka’s S. Sathyanarayan finished third in 11.56.
The men’s 400m title went to Botswana’s Justice Oratile in
45.35 seconds, ahead of South Africa’s Leendert Koekemoer (45.40) and Sri
Lanka’s Kalinga H. (45.61). Kerala’s Manu TS finished fifth in 45.94.
South Africa’s Molifi Mohlomi won the men’s 800m in 1:47.45,
with Haryana’s Krishan Kumar taking silver in 1:47.69 and Maharashtra’s Prakash
Balu third in 1:48.03.
Punjab’s Harmanjot Singh topped the men’s 5,000m in 14:11.51,
followed by Karnataka’s Shivaji Parashuram (14:13.84) and Gopi Thonakal
(14:15.98). In the 110m hurdles, South Africa enjoyed a one-two finish, with
Franco Le Roux winning in 13.47 seconds and Antonio Alkana taking second in
13.54. Brazil’s Eduardo Rodrigues was third in 13.64.
Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwe dominated the men’s shot put
with a 20.78m effort. Italy’s Weir Zane was second at 20.47m, while Punjab’s
Karanveer Singh and Tajinderpal Singh Toor finished third and fourth with
20.06m and 20.03m respectively.
Tamil Nadu’s Aadarsh Ram won the men’s high jump after
clearing 2.22m. Oman’s Fatak Bait Jaboob was second at 2.19m and Iraq’s Abdul
Raman Omar third at 2.15m. In the javelin throw, Uttar Pradesh’s Rohit Yadav
topped the field with 87.68m, ahead of Rajasthan’s Yashvir Singh (82.94m) and
Sri Lanka’s Sumedha R. (80.29m).
Kerala’s M. Sreeshankar produced one of the notable efforts
of the evening, winning the men’s long jump with 8.07m. South Africa’s Divan
Manuel was second at 8.03m, while Tamil Nadu’s David P. secured third place
with 7.78m.
Among the women, Tamil Nadu’s Vithya Ramraj was the winner of
the 400m in 51.96 seconds. Uttar Pradesh’s Prachi finished second in 52.57 and
Karnataka’s Poovamma MR third in 52.78. Haryana’s Pooja claimed the 1,500m
title in 4:17.24, ahead of Uttarakhand’s Lili Das (4:18.32) and Sri Lanka’s
Shanika Kahawalage (4:27.22).
Kenya’s Diana Wanza won the women’s 5,000m in 15:16.11, with
Haryana’s Bharti taking silver in 15:46.45 and Nepal’s Santoshi S third in
17:31.75.
The women’s 100m hurdles saw Bahamas’ Charisma Taylor emerge
victorious in 12.96 seconds. Japan’s Yumi Tanaka was second in 13.04, while
Andhra Pradesh’s Jyothi Yarraji finished third in 13.24.
Kerala’s Ancy Sojan won the women’s long jump with 6.71m, ahead
of Uttar Pradesh’s Shaili Singh (6.56m) and Lakshadweep’s Mubssina Mohammed
(6.31m). The high jump witnessed an unusual three-way tie at the top, with
Karnataka’s Supriya, Uttar Pradesh’s Manshi and Reet Rathore all clearing
1.75m.
Brazil’s Andressa De Morais won the women’s discus throw with 58.66m, followed by Jamaica’s Samantha Hall (58.43m) and Thailand’s Subenrat Insaeng (58.33m). Haryana’s Seema Kaliramana finished fourth with 57.44m.
Brazil completed another victory in the women’s field events as Jucilene Sales De Lima won the javelin throw with 59.13m. Sri Lanka’s Dilhani Lekamge was second with 58.98m, while Uttar Pradesh’s Annu Rani finished third with 56.96m.
