Construction of four new clinical blocks and a residential block at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack is progressing rapidly, with the clinical facilities expected to be completed by June next year, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Wednesday.

Reviewing the progress of the mega redevelopment project at a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan here, Majhi directed officials to expedite the construction works and take steps to further strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the premier medical institution.

The residential block is almost complete, while the four clinical blocks are scheduled to be completed by June 2027, officials informed the meeting.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to construct another Medicine Block at SCB and identify a suitable location for it at the earliest.

The mega redevelopment project is aimed at upgrading SCB Medical College and Hospital and transforming it into a world-class healthcare centre capable of catering to the growing needs of patients from Odisha and neighbouring regions.

During the review, detailed discussions were held on the progress of the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility being constructed under the first phase of the project and other allied infrastructure works.

The redevelopment plan also includes integrated development and beautification of areas around the Bose Engineering School, Biju Patnaik Film and Television Institute and the Odisha State Maritime Museum.

Majhi directed the authorities to complete all the works within the stipulated deadline without compromising on quality.

The meeting also reviewed the proposed development of Hanuman Vatika, a prominent religious tourism destination in Rourkela.

The Chief Minister directed the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation Limited (OBCC) to ensure that new construction works at Hanuman Vatika reflect the spiritual character and ethos of the site.
