Odisha’s emerging hockey talent Engil Harsharani Minz has taken another significant step towards the international stage, earning a place in India’s 20-member Junior Women’s Hockey Team for the AHF Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2026 in Moqi, China, from August 30 to September 13.

The goalkeeper from the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre (ONTHHPC) has been rewarded for her impressive development, with her composure under pressure, agility and consistency helping her break into the national junior set-up. Her selection is also another feather in the cap for Odisha’s growing reputation as a fertile nursery of hockey talent.

For Minz, the call-up represents the culmination of sustained hard work and high-performance training, while for ONTHHPC it further underlines the Centre’s contribution to India’s national teams. The young custodian has steadily honed her skills through a specialised programme designed to prepare promising players for the demands of elite competition.

The AHF Women’s Junior Asia Cup is one of the major continental competitions in junior hockey and will bring together leading teams from across Asia. The tournament will offer India’s young players valuable international exposure and an opportunity to test themselves against some of the continent’s best junior sides.

“Engil’s selection to the Indian team is a proud moment for all of us at ONTHHPC. Her journey reflects her hard work, discipline and determination. It also demonstrates the importance of providing young athletes with the right training and competitive exposure. We wish Engil and the Indian team the very best for the tournament and hope they have a successful campaign,” ONTHHPC Project Director Gurmeet Singh Rao said.

Minz’s selection further strengthens the Centre’s role in creating a pathway for young hockey players from high-performance training to national-level competition. Her progress also reflects the growing emphasis on systematic athlete development, where technical skills, tactical understanding and competitive experience are nurtured together.

As part of Hockey Ace Foundation (HAF), a joint initiative of Tata Steel and Tata Trusts, ONTHHPC works in partnership with the Government of Odisha and alongside the Naval Tata Hockey Academy in Jamshedpur to identify and nurture promising hockey talent.

Through specialised coaching, tactical development, video analysis and holistic athlete development, the Foundation seeks to equip young players for elite competition while strengthening the talent pipeline for India’s national teams.

With Minz now entrusted with guarding India’s goal at the continental stage, ONTHHPC will hope its latest prospect can make a strong impression in China and add another chapter to the Centre’s growing contribution to Indian hockey.

ONTHHPC congratulated Engil Harsharani Minz on her selection and wished the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team success in the AHF Women’s Junior Asia Cup 2026.
