“Empowering the girl child is not a one-day commitment, but rather a sustained responsibility. At Vedanta Aluminium, we believe that when girls are supported with education, health awareness and skills, they become powerful agents of change for their families and communities. Our initiatives across locations reflect our focus on creating enabling ecosystems where every girl can learn, grow and lead with confidence,” said Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, while reaffirming the company’s long-term commitment to gender equity on the occasion of National Girl Child Day.

Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, marked the day with a series of impactful engagement programmes across its operational regions in rural Odisha and Chhattisgarh, reaching over 780 girls through initiatives focused on education, health, awareness and empowerment. The celebrations underscored the company’s holistic approach to bridging the gender divide by improving access to education and healthcare, addressing child malnutrition, and expanding opportunities for skill development among girls and young women.

This year’s initiatives included menstrual health and puberty awareness sessions, interactive discussions on education and career aspirations, digital literacy engagements, and creative learning activities. Adolescent girls participated in meaningful dialogues on mental well-being, self-confidence and leadership, while younger children were engaged through play-based and expressive activities aimed at strengthening foundational learning skills. The programmes witnessed active participation from students, parents, educators, community members and women employee volunteers, fostering safe and inclusive spaces for learning, expression and growth.

In Odisha’s mining regions of Kuraloi, Jamkhani and Ghogharpalli, awareness sessions on menstrual health, puberty and gender equality, along with digital empowerment discussions, were conducted at government schools, benefiting more than 430 adolescent girls. At Jharsuguda, over 150 girls took part in interactive awareness programmes, including a menstrual health session led by a medical professional, encouraging open conversations around hygiene, health and self-care. In Lanjigarh, the Bhawanipatna Skill Centre hosted engagement activities such as essay and poster-making competitions alongside a motivational interaction aimed at inspiring young minds.

In Chhattisgarh, Vedanta Aluminium’s BALCO unit celebrated the day across Nand Ghars through community-led activities, games and focused discussions on empowerment, mental well-being and education. These programmes engaged over 200 participants, including children, parents and adolescent girls, reinforcing the importance of collective community support in nurturing the potential of the girl child.

Through these sustained and inclusive initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium continues to strengthen its on-ground commitment to empowering the girl child, driving positive change through education, health awareness and inclusive community development across the regions it serves.
