NEW DELHI, JUNE 12, 2026

In a significant push to accelerate India’s renewable energy transition, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will host the Global Wind Day 2026 Conference in Goa on June 15 under the theme, “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration.” The high-profile event is expected to bring together policymakers, industry leaders, regulators and renewable energy experts to outline the next phase of growth for India’s rapidly expanding wind energy sector.

The conference will be attended by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, and Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik. Senior officials from MNRE, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), Grid India, state governments and leading industry associations will also participate.

India has emerged as the world’s fourth-largest wind power market, with ambitious targets of achieving 100 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035. Wind power is expected to play a pivotal role in helping the country achieve its broader goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity and net-zero emissions by 2070.

Highlighting the sector’s growing momentum, Pralhad Joshi said wind energy remains at the core of India’s renewable energy strategy and noted that the record addition of 6.1 GW during 2025-26 reflects the impact of strong policy support and industry collaboration. He emphasized that the focus must now shift from ambition to execution, while also positioning India to capture emerging global export opportunities.

MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi will also take part in the conference, which will focus on key issues shaping the future of the sector, including resource adequacy, grid readiness, capacity expansion, domestic manufacturing competitiveness, export potential, forecasting technologies and renewable energy firming solutions.

A major highlight of the event will be the release of several industry reports and knowledge papers, including “Elevating India’s Wind Turbine Exports for Global Markets,” which outlines the country’s potential to emerge as a global manufacturing and export hub for wind turbines and related technologies.

Through plenary sessions and panel discussions featuring government representatives, regulators, developers, manufacturers and industry experts, the conference will seek practical solutions to accelerate project deployment, improve execution efficiency and strengthen domestic capabilities. As India enters a new phase of renewable energy expansion, Global Wind Day 2026 is expected to serve as a crucial platform for shaping a long-term roadmap for sustainable growth, energy security and clean energy leadership.
