Reaffirming its
commitment to environmental sustainability and community participation, Gujarat
Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC)’s Baitarani West Coal Project observed
World Environment Day 2026 on Friday with enthusiastic tree plantation drives
at educational institutions in and around its project area.
The celebrations
commenced on a green note at Bapujee College, Chhendipada, where Chhendipada
MLA Agasti Behera attended as the Chief Guest. In the presence of College
Principal Dharmaraj Tripathy, faculty members and students, the MLA planted
saplings and underscored the importance of environmental protection and
ecological balance. Addressing the gathering, he encouraged students to
actively participate in plantation initiatives and emerge as ambassadors of
environmental conservation within their communities.
A similar plantation
programme was organized at Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya, Gopinathpur, Chhendipada,
where students enthusiastically joined the drive and planted saplings in large
numbers. Their active participation reflected a growing awareness among the
younger generation about the need to safeguard nature and contribute towards a
sustainable future.
World Environment Day
2026 was observed under the theme, “For Nature, For Future – Joining Hands for
the Global Call Towards Climate Action.” Aligning with this global message,
GMDC’s plantation initiatives across educational institutions highlighted the
corporation’s dedication to promoting environmental stewardship and fostering a
greener future for generations to come.
The programmes were jointly coordinated by the Environment & CSR Department of GMDC and Gramya Vikas Trust. Their collaborative efforts ensured the successful execution of the plantation drives, further strengthening community engagement and environmental awareness in the region.
The initiative reflects GMDC Baitarani West Coal Project’s continued focus on sustainable development and its resolve to contribute meaningfully to climate action through grassroots-level environmental initiatives.
