DELHI, MARCH 5, 2026
India
and Finland have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on
Environmental Cooperation, reinforcing bilateral collaboration in key areas
such as pollution control, waste management, climate action and sustainable
resource use.
The
agreement was renewed in New Delhi by Union Minister for Environment, Forest
and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Finland’s Minister of Climate and the
Environment Sari Multala, marking a renewed commitment by both countries to
deepen environmental cooperation.
In
a post on social media platform X, Yadav said he was pleased that India had
renewed the MoU originally signed in 2020, highlighting that the partnership
would further strengthen collaboration in pollution prevention and control,
waste management, climate change mitigation and natural resource management
through knowledge sharing and technology cooperation.
The
renewed MoU will provide a structured framework for cooperation and exchange of
best practices between India and Finland. Key areas of collaboration include
prevention and control of air and water pollution, remediation of contaminated
soil, and improved waste management systems, including hazardous waste
treatment, waste-to-energy initiatives and recycling.
The
agreement also emphasizes advancing circular economy practices and promoting
low-carbon solutions in the use of forests and other natural resources.
Cooperation will further extend to climate change mitigation and adaptation,
environmental and forest monitoring — including improved data management — and
the conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal ecosystems.
Both
sides also discussed expanding collaboration in the circular economy through
focused dialogue and joint initiatives, aiming to promote sustainable growth
while addressing environmental challenges.
Officials
noted that the renewed pact is expected to facilitate stronger institutional
engagement, technology exchange and policy collaboration between the two
countries, further strengthening their shared commitment to environmental
protection and sustainable development.
