Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority clinched the championship after a
pulsating final as the 41st All India Major Ports Kabaddi Tournament 2025–26
concluded on a high note at Paradip on Sunday, with Chennai Port Authority
finishing as runners-up and hosts Paradip Port Authority sharing the second
runners-up position with Mumbai Port Authority.
The three-day national tournament, organised by Paradip Port Authority
under the aegis of the Major Ports Sports Control Board, brought together seven
teams from major ports across the country and turned the spotlight firmly on
the raw intensity and tactical brilliance of kabaddi. From high-risk raids to
well-marshalled defensive chains, the matches delivered sustained excitement
and showcased the competitive spirit and athletic excellence of India’s port
workforce.
The final day witnessed packed stands and fervent support from spectators
as players displayed remarkable stamina, coordination and sportsmanship. The
tournament not only underlined kabaddi’s enduring appeal as a traditional
Indian sport but also reflected the discipline and teamwork ingrained among
port employees.
The valedictory ceremony, held in the evening at the Biju Convention
Centre, was marked by celebration and pride. Paradip Port Authority Chairman P.
L. Haranadh attended as Chief Guest and presented trophies and medals to the
winning teams. Congratulating the players, he highlighted the role of sports in
fostering discipline, camaraderie and a healthy competitive spirit within the
maritime community.
Paradip Port Authority Deputy Chairman T. Venu Gopal, along with office
bearers of Gopabandhu Kreeda Sansad — H. S. Rout, President; Dr. D. P. Sethy,
Working President; and Dhuna Chandra Tarai, Secretary — were also present and
felicitated the players, officials and organisers for the smooth and successful
conduct of the tournament.
By hosting the prestigious national event, Paradip Port Authority reaffirmed its commitment to employee welfare, physical fitness and the promotion of a strong sports culture. The tournament provided a vibrant platform for participants from Chennai, Deendayal, Jawaharlal Nehru, Mumbai, New Mangalore, Visakhapatnam and Paradip ports to forge bonds beyond the playing field, reinforcing the spirit of national integration through sport.
The championship concluded with lasting memories, renewed friendships and a powerful message of sportsmanship, leaving Paradip firmly etched on the kabaddi map of India’s major ports.
