marks 10 years with festive offer, puts 4G upgrade within reach of 2G users at
effective Rs 299

Reliance Jio on
Tuesday announced a special anniversary offer on its JioBharat 4G feature
phones, allowing eligible users to upgrade from 2G to 4G at an effective device
cost of just Rs 299, as the telecom operator marks a decade of connecting
India.
Under the
limited-period Jio Anniversary Offer, eligible JioBharat 4G phones will be
available for Rs 1,499, bundled with six months of complimentary connectivity
benefits comprising 14 GB of data every month and unlimited HD voice calling,
subject to applicable terms and conditions.
The company said the
offer is aimed at making digital connectivity more accessible and affordable
for millions of feature-phone users, particularly those still dependent on 2G
networks.
Jio said the offer
comes as part of its celebrations marking 10 years of its presence in India's
telecom and digital ecosystem and is designed to encourage more users to
participate in the country's growing digital economy.
For a typical 2G user
spending around Rs 199 a month on recharges, connectivity expenses can amount
to nearly Rs 1,200 over six months. Against this, the anniversary offer
provides a 4G-enabled JioBharat handset along with six months of connectivity
benefits for Rs 1,499.
After accounting for
the connectivity expenditure that a user would otherwise incur, the effective
incremental cost of upgrading to the 4G device works out to Rs 299, the company
said.
JioBharat is
positioned as more than a conventional feature phone, offering users access to
a range of digital services alongside voice calling and messaging. The handset
provides access to entertainment services including JioTV, with more than 500
TV channels, as well as live cricket, movies and entertainment through
JioHotstar and a range of music content.
The device also
supports digital payments through JioPay, along with payment alerts and Sound
Box functionality, enabling feature-phone users to participate in India's
expanding digital payments ecosystem.
For families,
JioBharat comes with safety and connectivity features, including Jio Safety
Shield and location-monitoring capabilities aimed at helping users stay
connected with family members.
On the hardware
front, the handset features a 2.4-inch display and a 2,000mAh battery, besides
4G connectivity on Jio's nationwide network.
The company said the festive-season initiative is intended to extend the benefits of digital connectivity to a wider section of the population and help bridge the gap between traditional 2G usage and the country's rapidly expanding digital ecosystem.
Jio, which launched commercial operations in 2016, has since expanded its presence across India's telecom and digital services landscape. The anniversary offer is part of the company's efforts to mark the milestone by bringing affordable 4G connectivity and digital services to more users.
