Deemed-to-be-University (KIIT-DU) has achieved a significant milestone by
securing the 4th position in India among both government and private institutions
in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026,
improving from its 5th-place ranking last year. Globally, the university has
been placed in the prestigious 101–200 cohort, reaffirming its growing stature
as a leader in sustainable higher education.
In this edition of the rankings, KIIT was assessed across all
17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The university emerged
as the top-ranked institution in India for SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG
14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). It
also secured the 2nd position nationally for SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and
Infrastructure), while maintaining a place among the top 10 institutions in
India across all remaining SDGs.
The university’s outstanding performance, driven by the
visionary leadership of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, reflects its deep commitment to
advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The achievement underscores
KIIT’s focus on translating sustainability commitments into measurable
outcomes, tangible implementation, and meaningful real-world impact.
“We are delighted that KIIT has once again performed strongly in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. We have consistently maintained our standing while improving our performance year after year, reflecting our sustained commitment to excellence and sustainable development,” said Dr. Samanta.
The Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings evaluate universities worldwide on their societal impact and contributions toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, complementing the widely recognised World University Rankings. KIIT’s latest achievement further strengthens its reputation as one of India’s leading institutions championing sustainable and inclusive development on the global stage.
