The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) on Friday welcomed its 2026 MBBS and BDS admission batches at a White Coat Ceremony, marking the formal beginning of the aspiring doctors' journey into the medical profession.

Addressing the newly admitted students, Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, urged them to make the best use of the opportunities available to them and remain committed to lifelong learning. He also expressed gratitude to parents for reposing their faith in KIMS and choosing the institution for their children's medical education.

Highlighting the importance of knowledge in today's competitive world, Dr Samanta said students could broaden their horizons by drawing upon the academic expertise and resources available across various schools of KIIT.

"This is the age of knowledge, and you must make the most of it," he said. Pointing out that several successful candidates in the Civil Services Examination (UPSC) have a medical background, he encouraged the students to explore opportunities beyond the conventional boundaries of the medical profession.

Pro-Chancellor of KIIT Dr Subrat Kumar Acharya described medicine as an excellent profession and advised the students to enjoy their academic journey. He emphasised that learning should be an enjoyable experience, adding that the pursuit and acquisition of knowledge were rewarding in themselves.

He urged the budding medical professionals to strive for excellence, build confidence and work towards becoming successful professionals. He also reminded them that they were fortunate to be part of one of the finest educational institutions in the country.

Principal of KIMS, Prof. Dr R C Das, described the students' entry into medical education as a transformative milestone, observing that the White Coat Ceremony was an occasion they would cherish throughout their lives.

Urging the students to wear the white coat with humility, Prof. Das said it symbolised a responsibility towards society. He also advised them to make effective use of technology in medical education and clinical practice, while ensuring that technology remained an aid to decision-making rather than controlling it.

Dr C B K Mohanty, Pro Vice-Chancellor, School of Medicine, KIIT, called upon the young medical students to uphold compassion and empathy in their profession. He emphasised that medical practitioners must always remember the human dimension of healthcare and treat every patient with sensitivity and understanding.

The ceremony marked the formal commencement of the medical education journey of the 2026 MBBS and BDS batches at KIMS, with senior institutional leaders calling upon the students to combine academic excellence, professional integrity and compassion in their service to society.
