The literary
landscape of Odisha witnessed a poignant new addition with the launch of The Year She Disappeared, the debut
English novel by author Sangram Keshari Senapati, at a vibrant literary
gathering held in Azimabad, Balasore. The book was unveiled during the
“Abhilasha Open Mic” programme organised at Mission Success Institute in the
presence of eminent literary personalities including poet Abhilipsa Padhi,
Utkalika Rout and AP Shubhkant Samal.
The Year
She Disappeared is a tender and emotionally grounded narrative that
explores the fragile beauty of first love, the ache of unanswered goodbyes and
the quiet resilience required to move forward without closure. Written in a
simple yet deeply heartfelt voice, the novel gently reminds readers that not
every love story is destined to last forever, yet every true connection leaves
behind an enduring imprint. Some people may not stay, but they remain — in
memories, in silence and in the subtle shaping of who we become.
Published by
Shubhapallaba Publications, the novel marks an important milestone in
Senapati’s literary journey as his first work in English, with plans underway
to release the book in Odia language in the near future.
The event reflected
the growing vibrancy of Balasore’s creative community, as young poets and
writers enthusiastically presented their stories and poems, accompanied by
engaging musical performances and stand-up comedy that enriched the cultural
ambience.
Significantly, the
programme marked the first open mic event organised in Balasore by Abhilasha,
drawing an encouraging response from literature enthusiasts and emerging voices
alike.
Meanwhile, Senapati
continues to expand his creative footprint, with his upcoming Odia novel
“Cigarette” scheduled for release next week by Timepass Publication, signalling
his rising presence in contemporary regional and bilingual literature.
Readers can explore
the novel on Amazon India, where the book is currently available online
