Stressing that trust, responsibility,
teamwork and the welfare of both regular and contractual workers must remain at
the heart of industrial growth, Paradip Port Authority (PPA) Chairman P.L.
Haranadh urged all stakeholders to embrace the Government of India's Four
Labour Codes to strengthen social security, workplace safety and workers'
rights. He said the new labour reforms are aimed at simplifying labour laws
while ensuring better protection and welfare for workers, setting the tone for
an Awareness-cum-Workshop on the Four Labour Codes organised by the Paradip
Port Authority at its New Board Room on Friday.
The workshop brought together a wide
spectrum of stakeholders, including Principal Employers, local trade union leaders,
contractors, employers, officials of the Labour Department, officers from the
Office of the Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Bhubaneswar, Heads of
Departments (HODs) and senior officers of Paradip Port Authority. Chiranjeev
Saikia, Deputy Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), Bhubaneswar, under the
Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi, attended the
programme as the Chief Guest, while Jayanta Prasad Behera, Regional Labour
Commissioner (Central), Bhubaneswar, was also present.
Delivering the keynote address, Haranadh
highlighted the various employee welfare initiatives undertaken by Paradip Port
Authority, with special emphasis on extending enhanced benefits to contractual
workers. He informed that PPA has introduced mandatory free health check-ups
every three years, multilingual safety awareness measures and a fully funded
one-week safety training programme for workers, including those engaged under
Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects. He reiterated that the Authority
remains committed to creating a safe, inclusive and worker-friendly work
environment while ensuring compliance with evolving labour regulations.
Chief Guest Chiranjeev Saikia lauded
Paradip Port Authority for proactively organising the awareness workshop and
described it as a significant initiative towards strengthening labour law
compliance and fostering constructive engagement between employers and workers.
He observed that such awareness programmes play a crucial role in ensuring the
smooth implementation of the Four Labour Codes and enhancing cooperation among
all stakeholders.
The workshop featured detailed
technical sessions conducted by subject experts, who explained the provisions
and practical aspects of the Four Labour Codes. Participants were also given
demonstrations on the use of the Shram Suvidha Portal for registrations,
licences and statutory returns, along with the Samadhan Portal, which
facilitates grievance redressal, dispute resolution and claims management.
Addressing the gathering, Krishna Bapi
Raju G., Secretary, Paradip Port Authority, underscored the importance of
awareness, statutory compliance and collaborative efforts for the effective
implementation of the Labour Codes. He encouraged employers, contractors and
workers to work together to ensure that the benefits of the new labour reforms
reach every section of the workforce.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants sought clarifications on various aspects of the Labour Codes and their implementation. Local trade union members and employees actively participated in the deliberations, contributing to a better understanding of the new legal framework and its practical implications.
Proposing the vote of thanks, Krishna Bapi Raju G. expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, officials, employers, contractors, trade union representatives and all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. He reaffirmed Paradip Port Authority's unwavering commitment to promoting a safe, compliant and worker-centric workplace through sustained awareness and collaborative initiatives.
