The long-awaited
Secondary Plus Eye Care Centre at NALCO Nagar, Anugola, is set to become
operational in the coming months, with the National Aluminium Company Limited
(NALCO) and the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Hyderabad, taking fresh
steps to resolve operational challenges that had delayed the facility’s
functioning.
Navratna Central
Public Sector Enterprise NALCO has signed an addendum to its existing agreement
with LVPEI as part of efforts to operationalise the modern eye care facility
and expand access to specialised and affordable ophthalmic services in its
peripheral areas.
The infrastructure
for the Secondary Plus Eye Care Centre was established by NALCO in association
with LVPEI with the objective of providing quality eye care services to people
in Anugola and neighbouring regions. However, the facility could not be made
functional as scheduled due to certain operational challenges.
Following a
comprehensive review of the project, NALCO and LVPEI have addressed the key
bottlenecks through the revised agreement, paving the way for early operationalisation
of the centre.
The addendum was
signed between NALCO Foundation, the CSR arm of NALCO, and LVPEI at the NALCO
Corporate Office here on Monday. The signing ceremony was attended by NALCO
Chairman-cum-Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh, the company’s Directors,
LVPEI Executive Chair Prashant Garg and senior officials of both organisations.
Under the revised
arrangement, NALCO Foundation and LVPEI will make concerted efforts to expedite
the operationalisation of the centre. The operation and management of the
facility will be entrusted to LVPEI, which is recognised internationally for
its expertise in eye care and also operates a tertiary eye care centre in
Bhubaneswar.
The
operationalisation of the centre is expected to substantially improve access to
specialised ophthalmic services for residents of Anugola and adjoining
districts. The facility will offer quality eye care at affordable and
subsidised rates, with a particular focus on communities living in NALCO’s
peripheral villages.
Once functional, the Secondary Plus Eye Care Centre is envisaged as a regional eye care hub serving Anugola, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Boudh and neighbouring districts. Besides reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for specialised treatment, the facility is expected to strengthen the region’s healthcare infrastructure and widen access to affordable eye care.
The initiative is part of NALCO’s broader CSR efforts to support quality healthcare and improve the well-being of communities in and around its operational areas.
