The fourth edition of
the Odisha Naval Tata Hockey Summer Camp began on a vibrant and energetic note
in Bhubaneswar, drawing an enthusiastic turnout of over 80 young hockey
aspirants and setting the tone for an action-packed fortnight of learning,
discipline, and sporting excellence.
Organised in
collaboration with the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Odisha, the
camp is being held from May 4 to May 21, bringing together boys and girls aged
6 to 16 for structured training and immersive exposure to the sport. The
initiative reflects Odisha’s sustained commitment to nurturing grassroots
hockey and building a strong pipeline of future talent.
The opening ceremony
witnessed the presence of key officials, including Soumya Sarthak Mishra,
Deputy Secretary of the Sports & Youth Services Department, along with
Ashish Kumar Rout and Dr. Saswat Kumar Rout, both serving as Officers on
Special Duty. Addressing the young participants, they emphasised the values of
discipline, teamwork, and consistency — cornerstones for success in competitive
hockey.
The camp sprang into
action immediately after the inaugural proceedings, with participants engaging
in an intensive strength and conditioning session. Carefully designed to
enhance endurance, agility, and core strength, the session offered an early
glimpse into the camp’s high-performance training framework.
With participants
arriving from different parts of the state, the camp stands as a testament to
Odisha’s growing stature as a powerhouse in Indian hockey. The young players
share a common ambition—to refine their skills under expert guidance and gain a
deeper understanding of the evolving dynamics of the modern game.
Blending technical
drills, fitness modules, and mentorship, the camp promises a holistic
development experience. As Odisha continues to strengthen its identity as a key
hub for the sport, initiatives like the Naval Tata Hockey Summer Camp play a
vital role in shaping the next generation of hockey stars, ensuring that the
state’s rich legacy in the game continues to flourish.
