Reaffirming Odisha’s ambition to emerge as a leading clean
energy investment destination, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on
Thursday said the state is steadily progressing towards achieving 11 GW of
renewable energy capacity by 2030 and has already approved nearly ₹2
lakh crore worth of clean energy projects. He noted that an additional ₹30,000 crore investment is
expected in transmission infrastructure, creating a strong foundation for
Odisha’s Vision 2047 of sustainable and inclusive growth.
Singh Deo was addressing the inaugural session of the CII
Energy Conclave 2026, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
in partnership with the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, in
Bhubaneswar. The conclave, themed “Powering Eastern India’s Green Transition –
Policy, Innovation & Industrial Decarbonization,” brought together
policymakers, industry leaders, energy experts, technology providers and
sustainability professionals to deliberate on strategies for accelerating
Odisha’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.
Highlighting Odisha’s rapid emergence as a clean energy hub,
Singh Deo who also holds the Energy portfolio, said the state has already
attracted investment intents worth ₹67,000 crore for 6.7 GW
renewable energy projects spanning solar, wind, pumped storage and hybrid
energy systems. He further emphasized that green hydrogen and green ammonia projects along Odisha’s
coastline are opening new avenues for sustainable industrial growth and
positioning the state at the forefront of India’s green transition.
Delivering the special address, Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional
Chief Secretary, Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, underscored the
government’s commitment to renewable energy, energy efficiency, green hydrogen
and sustainable industrial development. He announced an investment of ₹4,500
crore to strengthen Odisha’s transmission
and distribution infrastructure and stressed the importance of collaboration
among developers, technology providers, financial institutions and local
communities to build a resilient and future-ready energy ecosystem.
Dev also announced that the Global Energy Leaders Summit 2026
will be hosted in Bhubaneswar and invited stakeholders from across the energy
sector to participate in the landmark event.
Anil Kumar Singh, Chairman, CII Odisha State Council and
President of JSW Steel Limited, highlighted Odisha’s growing prominence as a
destination for clean energy investments and sustainable industrial growth. He
called for deeper collaboration among government, industry, investors and
financial institutions to establish Odisha as the green energy gateway of
Eastern India.
Setting the context for the conclave, Devesh Goel, Chairman,
CII Eastern Region Energy Subcommittee and Managing Director of Laser Power
& Infra Ltd, observed that the global energy landscape is undergoing a
significant transformation driven by the imperatives of energy security,
affordability, sustainability and resilience.
Vijay Chand, Regional Executive Director of NTPC Ltd,
emphasized the need for Eastern India to balance industrial expansion with
environmental sustainability through a comprehensive and diversified energy
transition strategy.
Prashant Mathur, Chief Executive Officer of Saatvik Solar
Industries Private Limited, highlighted the importance of strengthening
domestic solar manufacturing capabilities to enhance India’s energy security
and support the country’s renewable energy ambitions. He stressed the need for
continued policy support, technological innovation and resilient supply chains
to accelerate large-scale solar deployment.
Prashant Choubey, President and Head of Green Hydrogen &
Ammonia Business at Avaada Group, underscored the transformative role of green
hydrogen and green ammonia in decarbonizing hard-to-abate industrial sectors.
He observed that Odisha’s robust industrial ecosystem, extensive port
infrastructure and abundant renewable energy resources make it an attractive
destination for green hydrogen investments and exports.
Concluding the inaugural session, Manikanta Naik, Vice
Chairman of CII Odisha State Council and Managing Director of TATA Steel SEZ
Limited, emphasized the need for coordinated action among government agencies,
industry, financial institutions and technology providers to accelerate Eastern
India’s green transition. He said Odisha’s strategic location, progressive
policy framework, strong industrial base and vast renewable energy potential
position it to emerge as a national leader in clean energy, green hydrogen and
sustainable industrial development.
The conclave also featured a parallel stakeholders’
consultation with the Department of Energy, Government of Odisha, providing
industry representatives with an opportunity to discuss policy interventions,
regulatory reforms and emerging opportunities in the energy sector.
Technical sessions focused on three key themes — creating green value and building climate resilience for Indian industry; advancing green hydrogen, future fuels, renewable energy, storage and grid integration; and unlocking market mechanisms for industrial decarbonization. Deliberations covered climate resilience, renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, transmission infrastructure, carbon markets, policy reforms, financial incentives and market-based approaches to accelerate industrial decarbonization.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from industry leaders, policymakers, energy professionals, technology innovators and sustainability experts from across the country, reaffirming Odisha’s growing role in shaping India’s clean energy future and driving the nation’s transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy.
