Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on Wednesday announced a landmark partnership with Meta Platforms Inc. to develop a state-of-the-art AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in India's emergence as a global hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Under the agreement, RIL will build a 168 MW data centre campus, scheduled for completion within two years, with provisions for future expansion. The facility will be Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre project in India and will support the technology giant’s growing global AI computing and digital infrastructure requirements.

The project further strengthens the long-standing strategic relationship between Reliance and Meta, which already spans connectivity, digital commerce and technology innovation. Meta will lease capacity from the facility, underscoring India's increasing importance in the global digital and AI ecosystem.

RIL will provide end-to-end services across the entire lifecycle of the project, including design, construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity and fully managed operations. The integrated approach positions Reliance as a comprehensive solutions provider for hyperscale AI infrastructure in India.

The Jamnagar location offers several strategic advantages for large-scale data centre operations, including robust project execution capabilities, abundant renewable energy resources, water availability, proximity to western submarine cable landing stations and access to Jio’s extensive fibre network. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater, reflecting the sustainability commitments of both companies.

The partnership aligns with the Government of India’s vision of establishing data centres as strategic national infrastructure and creating a conducive policy framework to attract large-scale global investments in AI and digital infrastructure.

Commenting on the development, Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, said the project represents a transformative moment for India’s digital infrastructure landscape.

“Building India’s first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader of Meta’s scale demonstrates India’s readiness to be at the forefront of the global AI revolution. At Reliance, we are committed to creating world-class digital infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI innovation — not only for India, but for the world. Jamnagar will emerge as a landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing, and we are proud to partner with Meta in realizing this vision,” Ambani said.

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, said the collaboration reflects the company’s long-term commitment to India and its rapidly growing digital economy.

“We're proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data centre in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India's economy,” Zuckerberg said.
