NEW DELHI, MARCH 2, 2026

Calling upon newly inducted Indian Administrative Service officers to rise above departmental silos and become custodians of governance standards for the entire nation, President Droupadi Murmu on Monday stressed that every administrative decision must align with the vision of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The President was addressing officers inducted into the IAS from State Civil Services who are attending the 128th Induction Training Programme at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration and called on her at Rashtrapati Bhavan. She told them that their responsibilities now extend far beyond district or state priorities and require a national perspective anchored in collaboration, professionalism and institutional coherence.

Emphasising the importance of coordinated governance, the President said that dismantling administrative silos and working collectively would strengthen the machinery of government and improve development outcomes. She underlined that they were no longer administrators of a particular region but standard-bearers of governance practices that must be upheld across the country.

Highlighting the core mandate of the civil services, she said IAS officers would be expected to implement policies effectively to meet the needs and aspirations of citizens. Their experience in state administration, she noted, should now be guided by a ‘Nation First’ approach as they take on more complex and strategic responsibilities at higher levels.

The President also underscored the need for inclusive development, stating that India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation would be meaningful only when its benefits reach the most vulnerable and deprived sections. She urged the officers to ensure that no community is left behind due to geographical, social or economic barriers.

Pointing to emerging governance priorities, she stressed sustainability and climate resilience as critical areas requiring committed administrative leadership. Senior officers, she said, must champion green practices, promote climate-adaptive governance and ensure that development pathways remain environmentally responsible.

Observing that today’s policy choices will shape the quality of life of future generations, the President called upon the officers to uphold the highest standards of public service with integrity, coordination and a long-term national vision.
