ROURKELA, OCTOBER 6, 2026

The Silicon Steel Mill (SSM) of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has scripted a new production record by clocking its best-ever saleable output of 40,730 tonnes during the first half of the 2026-27 financial year, the company said on Tuesday.

The production achieved during April-September 2026 surpassed the previous best of 40,608 tonnes recorded during the corresponding period of 2008-09, marking a new milestone for the specialised mill.

The SSM also registered its highest-ever saleable steel despatch of 40,424 tonnes in the first half of the current fiscal, exceeding its previous best of 39,827 tonnes achieved during the same period in 2010-11.

The mill recorded a robust 28.7 per cent growth in production and a 30.7 per cent increase in despatch compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.

The record performance was attributed to the collective efforts of the SSM team and the support extended by various associated and supporting departments.

Congratulating the SSM team and its leadership on the achievement, RSP Director-in-Charge Alok Verma said the mill should further harness its potential and leverage its niche products to strengthen the bottom line of the plant.

“Silicon Steel Mill has to further harness its potential and through its niche products boost the bottomline of RSP,” Verma said.

The latest performance reinforces RSP’s focus on increasing the production of value-added steel, improving despatches and strengthening its contribution to the overall growth of SAIL, the company said.

The achievement is particularly significant as silicon steel is a specialised value-added product used in applications where high magnetic performance and energy efficiency are critical, underlining the strategic importance of the mill to RSP’s product mix.
