Director (CMD) Dr. A. K. Panda visited the company's Odisha Group of Mines
(OGOM) and Jharkhand Group of Mines (JGOM) on Friday to review mining
operations, interact with employees and assess the future roadmap of SAIL's
captive mining operations.
During the visit, Dr. Panda inspected the iron ore mines at
Barsua, Taldih, Kalta, Bolani, Gua, Kiriburu and Meghahatuburu. He commended
employees for their dedication and reaffirmed that safety must remain the
foremost priority across all mining activities.
The CMD later chaired a review meeting at the Learning &

discussions focused on safety, production enhancement, mine development,
project execution, digital transformation and operational excellence.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Panda reiterated SAIL's
commitment to achieving a crude steel production capacity of 35 million tonnes
by 2030-31, supported by an annual iron ore production target of 100 million
tonnes from its captive mines to meet the company's raw material requirements
and the growing demand in the domestic market. He emphasized that robust mining
operations are essential for ensuring raw material security, enhancing cost
competitiveness and sustaining SAIL's long-term growth.
Highlighting SAIL's goal of significantly improving profitability, Dr. Panda said that efficient mining operations, optimum resource utilisation and higher iron ore production would play a pivotal role in achieving this objective. He also called for greater adoption of advanced digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance productivity, strengthen safety standards and promote sustainable mining practices.
The visit reaffirmed SAIL's commitment to developing safe, technology-driven and sustainable mining operations that will support the company's expansion plans while contributing to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
