Indian equity markets
staged a strong comeback on Tuesday, with benchmark indices rallying sharply as
a surge in information technology (IT) stocks, fuelled by optimism over
corporate earnings, lifted investor sentiment.
The BSE Sensex jumped
1,109.10 points, or 1.54 per cent, to close at 73,033.78, while the NSE Nifty
50 climbed 358.60 points, or 1.60 per cent, to settle at 22,721.95.
The rally was led by
IT stocks, with the Nifty IT index surging more than 5 per cent amid positive
sentiment surrounding HCL Technologies' earnings, providing a strong boost to
the broader market.
Buying interest was
widespread across sectors, with all sectoral indices on the National Stock
Exchange ending in positive territory, barring Nifty Pharma, which edged down
0.05 per cent.
Nifty Realty emerged
among the major gainers, advancing 2.48 per cent, while Nifty FMCG rose 1.40
per cent. Nifty PSU Bank gained 1.46 per cent, Nifty Auto climbed 1.23 per
cent, Nifty Metal advanced 1.17 per cent and Nifty Media added 0.55 per cent.
The broad-based gains
reflected improving investor confidence, with expectations of corporate
earnings providing fresh momentum to equities.
However, elevated
crude oil prices remained a key factor for investors to monitor. Brent crude
was trading at USD 104.55 per barrel at the time of reporting, keeping
attention focused on potential implications for India's import bill, inflation
and macroeconomic stability.
In the domestic bullion market, 24-karat gold was trading at Rs 1,49,535 per 10 grams, while silver was quoted at Rs 2,22,849 per kilogram.
Meanwhile, the Indian rupee extended its recovery for the second consecutive session, trading around the mid-95 level against the US dollar.
