Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has reached more than 14,300 consumers
across 779 villages in eight districts of Odisha through its mobile Solar Rath
initiative, generating over 9,198 enquiries on rooftop solar installations and
the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The initiative, aimed
at promoting clean energy adoption at the grassroots level, covered 12,193 km
across Dhenkanal, Angul, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendrapara and
Jagatsinghpur, taking awareness of rooftop solar benefits and government
incentives directly to rural communities.
The Solar Rath was
designed to bridge the information gap surrounding rooftop solar installations
by educating consumers about the benefits of solar energy, the installation
process and subsidies available under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. The campaign
also sought to encourage households to explore rooftop solar as an accessible
and sustainable energy solution.
A key component of
the initiative was the involvement of Solar Sanga representatives, who
accompanied the mobile outreach vehicle and engaged directly with consumers in
villages. They explained the benefits of rooftop solar, addressed queries
regarding installation and subsidies, and provided information on the
provisions of the government scheme.
The campaign
generated 9,198 enquiries, indicating considerable consumer interest in rooftop
solar and creating opportunities for further engagement to facilitate adoption.
Among the districts
covered, Puri recorded the highest outreach at 198 villages, followed by
Khordha with 173 villages, Cuttack with 90, Angul with 89, Dhenkanal with 78,
Jagatsinghpur with 68, Nayagarh with 61 and Kendrapara with 22 villages.
The outreach comes as
rooftop solar adoption in Central Odisha has crossed 79,900 installations,
reflecting the growing focus on decentralised renewable energy and
household-level participation in the clean energy transition.
Speaking on the
initiative, Gajanan S Kale, Chief – Odisha Distribution Business, Tata Power,
and CEO of TPCODL, said the Solar Rath was conceptualised to take the rooftop
solar conversation directly to communities and make information about the PM
Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana more accessible.
“The response across eight districts
highlights the value of direct, grassroots engagement. Each interaction helps
build awareness, address consumer queries and encourage more households to
explore the benefits of rooftop solar,” Kale said.
TPCODL said the initiative reinforces its efforts to strengthen consumer awareness, improve access to information on rooftop solar and support the adoption of clean energy across Central Odisha.
The company distributes electricity across Central Odisha and is undertaking awareness initiatives to encourage consumers to explore renewable energy solutions for their homes.
