Tata Steel has achieved multi-site certification to the SA8000:2014 standard, further strengthening its leadership in responsible business practices and reaffirming its commitment to advancing human rights and ethical labour standards across its operations.

The certification covers 1,19,230 workers across 23 sites, making Tata Steel Limited the world's largest SA8000-certified organisation in terms of workforce coverage under a multi-site certification. The Company has also emerged as the largest certified entity globally in the Extractive & Minerals Processing category, as defined by Social Accountability International (SAI), setting a new benchmark for the scale and breadth of social accountability compliance.

Commenting on the achievement, D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President – Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said: "The Company’s SA8000 multi-site certification reflects our deep commitment to upholding the highest standards of human rights, ethical labour practices, and workplace dignity across our operations. This achievement reaffirms our belief that sustainable industrial growth must go hand in hand with social responsibility, rooted in the protection and advancement of human rights."

The milestone marks the culmination of a comprehensive effort spanning more than two years, led by Tata Steel's SA8000 Steering Committee in close collaboration with dedicated Social Performance Teams across the 23 certified sites. The integrated multi-site certification demonstrates the Company's capability to consistently implement and sustain globally recognised social compliance standards across its diverse manufacturing and mining operations.

The latest achievement builds on Tata Steel's long-standing legacy in social accountability. In 2004, the Company's Sukinda mines became the first mining operation in the world to receive SA8000 certification. This was followed by Tata Steel's Jamshedpur facility becoming the world's first steel plant to be certified under the SA8000 standard, underscoring the Company's pioneering role in promoting responsible and ethical industrial practices.

SA8000 is the world's leading social certification standard, based on internationally recognised principles of decent work, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, and national labour laws. Certification to this rigorous standard reflects an organisation's commitment to ethical labour practices, fair treatment of workers, and respect for human rights throughout its operations.
