Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to industrial safety
and emergency preparedness, Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK) on Tuesday conducted
a full-scale on-site mock drill simulating a 'Hydrogen Release & Fire in
Hydrogen Buffer Vessel' scenario at its Cold Rolling Mill.
Organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Factories
& Boilers, Government of Odisha, in collaboration with the District
Administration, Jajpur, the exercise was aimed at strengthening fire disaster
response capabilities, enhancing inter-agency coordination, and validating
emergency preparedness involving mutual aid partner industries and response teams.
The large-scale drill simulated a potential fire emergency in
the Hydrogen Buffer Vessel area of the Cold Rolling Mill, creating realistic
conditions to assess the efficiency and response time of various emergency
teams, including Safety, Fire Brigade, Medical, Security and Operations
personnel. The exercise also evaluated evacuation procedures, incident command
systems, medical response, fire containment measures, and coordination among
all stakeholders, while identifying key learnings to further improve real-time
emergency response.
The mock drill was witnessed by Umesh Chandra Sutar, Deputy
Director, Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Jajpur Road Division; Debashis
Nayak, Assistant Director, Directorate of Factories & Boilers, Jajpur Road
Division; Ashok Behera, District Emergency Officer, Jajpur; Tapas Kumar Mantri,
Fire Officer, Jajpur Road; Ramesh Behera, Sub-Inspector, Kalinganagar Police
Station; Sankar Biswas, Chief of Mechanical Maintenance, Tata Steel
Kalinganagar; Pankaj Harishchandra Bhure, Chief of Electrical Maintenance, Tata
Steel Kalinganagar; Kamla Kant, Chief, Electrical Maintenance – Steel &
Mills; Matsyendra Nath Shukla, Chief, Mechanical Maintenance – Steel &
Mills; Ravi Marik, Chief, Corporate Services; Pravesh Narang, Chief, Cold
Rolling Mill; and Vilas Gaikwad, Chief Safety, Odisha.
Senior officials from Tata Steel Kalinganagar, Jindal
Stainless, Neelachal Ispat Nigam and VISA Steel also participated in the
exercise, underscoring the importance of mutual aid and coordinated response
during industrial emergencies.
The successful execution of the mock drill reaffirmed Tata
Steel Kalinganagar's proactive approach towards fostering a robust safety
culture and ensuring the highest standards of emergency preparedness to
safeguard employees, assets and the surrounding community.
