JHARSUGUDA, JUNE 4, 2026

Reinforcing its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, Vedanta Aluminium has commenced its Pride Month 2026 observance with significant workforce milestones at its mega aluminium operations in Jharsuguda, where women now constitute 21 per cent of the workforce and 19 transgender employees are engaged across various functions.

Aligned with this year’s global Pride Month theme, “For All of Us,” which advocates creating spaces where individuals can live and work with dignity and authenticity, the company is strengthening workplace inclusivity through progressive hiring practices, equitable opportunities and a culture of mutual respect.

At its Jharsuguda plant, women are contributing across critical operational domains, including potline operations, maintenance, engineering and power generation, while also holding leadership positions. The induction of 19 transgender employees into roles spanning security, storekeeping, housekeeping and maintenance reflects the company’s efforts to build a more representative workforce in a sector traditionally dominated by men.

To support transgender employees, Vedanta Aluminium has implemented a range of inclusive policies, including a comprehensive gender affirmation framework. The policy provides financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh for gender reassignment procedures, 30 days of paid leave during transition, access to medical guidance and dedicated accommodation support, addressing key challenges often faced by LGBTQIA+ professionals.

Commenting on the significance of these efforts, C Chandru, CEO - Vedanta Aluminium, Jharsuguda said, “A diverse workforce brings broader perspectives and strengthens decision-making. Inclusion is a core business priority that enables modern organizations to be resilient and future ready. We are committed to building a workplace where every professional feels respected and valued and is empowered with equal opportunities to contribute to our shared success.”

Vedanta Aluminium has emerged as a pioneer in promoting women’s participation in core manufacturing roles. The company is home to India’s first all-women potline team and all-women locomotive team, and recently established Odisha’s first all-women power operations team managing a 135 MW generating unit. Its all-women fire emergency response team, Agnivahini, comprising more than 100 trained members, further highlights the growing role of women in critical operational functions.

Beyond its industrial operations, the company continues to advance social inclusion through community initiatives. Its flagship Project Nand Ghar has established over 630 modern anganwadis across Odisha to support women and child development, while the Subhalaxmi Cooperative has empowered more than 5,000 women in Jharsuguda district through sustainable livelihood opportunities.

As Pride Month begins, Vedanta Aluminium’s latest workforce achievements underscore its broader vision of creating an inclusive workplace and enabling equal opportunities for all, irrespective of gender identity or background.
