DELHI, OCTOBER 5, 2026
Union Minister for
New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate the eighth edition of
Windergy India in Chennai on October 8, as India steps up efforts to expand its
wind power capacity and strengthen domestic manufacturing in the renewable
energy sector.
The three-day
Windergy India 2026, being held from October 7-9 at the Chennai Trade Centre,
comes at a time when India added a record 6.05 GW of wind power capacity in
2025-26, taking its cumulative installed capacity to 58.52 GW as of August
2026.
The country also has
around 28 GW of wind capacity under implementation, supporting the government's
target of achieving 100 GW of wind power capacity by 2030.
Joshi, who holds the
portfolios of New and Renewable Energy, Education, and Consumer Affairs, Food
and Public Distribution, will inaugurate the event in the presence of Minister
of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik and Tamil Nadu
Minister for Energy Resources and Law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar.
Senior officials from
the Centre and states, representatives of wind energy associations and industry
leaders are also expected to attend the inauguration.
The event is expected
to set the tone for greater collaboration between policymakers, manufacturers,
developers and global technology providers, with announcements of international
MoUs and the launch of key sectoral reports forming part of the inaugural
programme.
States that have
demonstrated leadership in the wind energy sector will also be recognised
during the event.
Organised by the
Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) and PDA Ventures Pvt Ltd,
with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of
Power, Windergy India 2026 is expected to bring together around 400 exhibitors
from more than 20 countries and 500 delegates.
The event will
feature a three-day trade fair, a two-day conference, technical sessions, round
tables, live demonstrations, business-to-business and business-to-government
meetings, besides an Academia Connect programme.
Country pavilions
from Denmark, Germany and Spain are also expected to provide an international
platform for technology partnerships and investment opportunities in India's
rapidly expanding wind energy market.
The exhibition will
showcase next-generation turbine platforms, heavy-duty gearboxes, artificial
intelligence-driven operations and maintenance solutions, domestic value
addition and offshore wind technologies.
Policy frameworks,
manufacturing competitiveness, repowering of existing wind assets and the
emerging offshore wind market will be among the key issues discussed at the
conference.
With India's wind sector entering a phase of accelerated capacity addition, the organisers said the 2026 edition would provide a platform for industry and policymakers to align on technology, investment, manufacturing and policy priorities required to scale up the country's renewable energy ambitions.
The inauguration is expected to underline India's growing role in the global wind energy ecosystem and reinforce efforts to build a competitive domestic supply chain while attracting international technology and investment into the sector.
