The fairways of the scenic Paradip Port Golf Course came alive with
precision drives and steady putts as the 25th Invitation Cup Golf Tournament
2026 concluded on Sunday, marking a memorable silver jubilee edition of one of
eastern India’s prominent amateur golfing events.
Organised by Paradip Golf Club, the two-day tournament from February 14
to 15 drew an impressive field of 71 golfers representing seven leading clubs
from across the country, reflecting the growing stature of the coastal golfing
venue on the national amateur circuit.
The tournament was inaugurated by T. Venu Gopal, Deputy Chairman of
Paradip Port Authority, who lauded the club for sustaining a competitive
sporting culture in the port town.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Asit Kumar Tripathy, former
Chief Secretary of Odisha, and A. K. Bose, Advisor (Traffic), along with senior
departmental heads.
On the greens, local talent held firm against strong inter-club competition. Akshaya Chandra Sutar of Paradip Golf Club clinched the Champion title in the Handicap (0–10) category with a composed and consistent round that set the benchmark for the weekend. In the mid-handicap bracket (11–19), Dr. Debadarshi Rath of Bhubaneswar Golf Club displayed clinical accuracy to emerge champion, while Ranjit Kumar Bomali of the host club secured top honours in the Handicap (20–24) category with an impressive performance under breezy coastal conditions. The Best Gross award went to Shaswat Panda of Bhubaneswar Golf Club, whose superior stroke play stood out across categories.
The event was smoothly conducted under the leadership of club president Susil Chandra Nahak, working president Dr. Durga Prasad Sethy, Captain A. C. Sutar and secretary Manoj Kumar Mohanta.
