Aditya Birla Fashion has reinforced its stature as a sustainability frontrunner by securing the top position in India and the third rank globally in the Retail Sector in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2025. With an impressive score of 84, the company has placed itself in the 99th percentile of the global retail industry, outperforming international peers across key Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) parameters.

The S&P Global CSA, one of the most comprehensive and credible evaluations of corporate sustainability, assesses more than 7,000 companies worldwide and forms the basis for inclusion in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Indices. The 2025 assessment cycle raised the bar significantly, introducing stricter, evidence-based standards with enhanced transparency, deeper disclosures and rigorous validation. Against this demanding backdrop, Aditya Birla Fashion not only retained its leadership position in India but also improved its global standing, underlining the robustness of its sustainability framework.

The company’s performance has been driven by its long-standing sustainability programme, ReEarth, which was launched over a decade ago and has continuously evolved with changing global expectations. What began as an initiative focused on operational efficiency and resource optimisation has transitioned into a product-led sustainability approach and is now advancing towards Sustainability 3.0, marked by deep ESG integration and readiness for a net-zero future.

Commenting on the achievement, Ashish Dikshit, Managing Director of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited and Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands Limited, said sustainability remains a core pillar of the company’s business strategy. He noted that the recognition from S&P Global validates its commitment to creating long-term value while pursuing responsible growth, adding that circular business models, deep-tier supply chain collaboration and carbon-neutral operations are central to its vision of shaping a sustainable fashion ecosystem.

Naresh Tyagi, Chief Sustainability Officer of the company, described the ranking as a proud moment not just for Aditya Birla Fashion but for Indian retailers on the global stage. He said the achievement reflects a structured sustainability roadmap and strong cross-functional collaboration, and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to pushing industry benchmarks through innovation and responsible leadership.

Aditya Birla Fashion’s sustainability journey has been marked by steady progress over the years. Since the launch of ReEarth in 2012–13 with a focus on ecosystem regeneration and community development, the company has consistently strengthened its ESG performance. From an initial CSA score of 22 in 2018, it made a significant leap to 63 in 2019 with an eighth-place global ranking in textiles and apparel, earned the distinction of Asia’s most sustainable company in 2020 with a score of 70, and achieved a score of 83 with a fourth global rank in 2024. The latest recognition in 2025 signals another decisive step forward, positioning Aditya Birla Fashion as a global benchmark in sustainable retail.THEBUSINESSBYTES BUREAU
