In a major push towards industry-oriented skill development and youth
employability, the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has
joined hands with Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. to equip young people
with advanced technical skills and create new avenues for employment and
self-employment.
The Ministry on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
Samsung India in the presence of Dr Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and
Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME. The three-year partnership will
initially be rolled out across 15 MSME Technology Centres spread over several states.
Under the collaboration, National Skills Qualifications Framework
(NSQF)-compliant training programmes will be introduced in electronics, mobile
phones, home appliances, installation, servicing and repair. The courses will
be delivered through state-of-the-art training facilities established at the
identified Technology Centres, with a focus on practical learning and
industry-relevant competencies.
Samsung will extend specialised technical training, Training of Trainers
(ToT), technical assistance and continuous handholding to ensure high-quality
training delivery and alignment with evolving industry requirements.
The programme aims to provide young trainees with hands-on experience,
industry exposure, career counselling, internship opportunities and placement
facilitation, thereby bridging the gap between formal skill development and
actual industry requirements.
As part of the initiative, successful candidates will be offered
three-month internships carrying a monthly stipend of Rs 12,000, disbursed
through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Eligible women and Divyangjan trainees
will also receive scholarship support, while outstanding performers will be
recognised through merit-based rewards.
The programme is expected to cover 1,600 trainees in its first year, with
the number set to increase progressively in subsequent years.
The 15 participating Technology Centres include Ludhiana and Hyderabad,
Kolkata and Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Aurangabad, Ramnagar Extension
Centre in Delhi, Chennai, Varanasi, Jamshedpur, Bengaluru, Greater Noida, Baddi
and Kanpur.
The partnership is expected to create a skilled pool of industry-ready manpower while strengthening linkages between industry and technical institutions. It will also support industries, particularly micro, small and medium enterprises, in addressing their growing demand for trained personnel and improving technical capabilities in the electronics and home appliances service sectors.
The initiative marks a significant step towards aligning skill development with industry needs, expanding livelihood opportunities for youth and strengthening India's technical workforce through collaboration between the government and the private sector.
