In a major clarification aimed at allaying growing concerns
among farmers ahead of the Kharif paddy procurement season, the Odisha
government has categorically stated that difficulties in obtaining Agristack
farmer registration will not affect farmers’ eligibility or registration for
paddy procurement. The clarification came after reports surfaced about farmers
facing hurdles in Agristack registration and apprehensions that the issue could
create problems in the PPAS system.
The Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday took serious note of the
media reports and discussed the matter threadbare, following which it was
clarified that Agristack farmer registration and registration in the PPAS
system for paddy procurement are not interlinked.
The government has made it clear that farmers need not worry about the procurement of their paddy because of their Agristack farmer registry status. Their registration in the PPAS system will continue this year in the same manner as it was done in the previous year, providing relief to farmers who may have encountered difficulties during the Agristack registration process.
The clarification is expected to dispel confusion among farmers and ensure that the ongoing Agristack registration process does not create uncertainty over the procurement of their paddy. The government has reiterated that farmers can proceed with the paddy procurement registration process without being concerned about the status of their Agristack registration.
