Emphasising that breaking barriers of communication is essential for fostering better understanding, cooperation and effective governance, Akhil Kumar Mishra, Additional Director General, PIB and CBC Bhubaneswar, on Wednesday called for continuous dialogue and proactive dissemination of information on government initiatives to ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every section of society.

Mishra was addressing the monthly meeting of the Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC)–Odisha Region held at NABM-Prasar Bharati, Bhubaneswar. The meeting focused on communication and outreach strategies for the campaign, “12 Years of NDA Government: Success, Achievements & Milestones.”

Highlighting the significance of effective communication in governance, Mishra drew lessons from Albert Camus' short story The Silent Man (1957). He observed that silence, while often a form of communication, can also create barriers between institutions and people if left unaddressed. Stressing the need for sustained public engagement, he urged officials from key Central and State government departments as well as public sector undertakings to proactively communicate developmental initiatives and public welfare programmes. He also called for stronger collaboration among communication units to enhance citizen outreach and bridge information gaps.

The meeting brought together representatives of various media units, government departments and public sector undertakings, who reviewed important activities undertaken by their respective organisations. Participants shared achievements, best practices and innovative outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening public awareness and engagement.

Among those who participated in the deliberations were Dr. Abhishek Mishra, Deputy Director, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Bhubaneswar; Dr. J.K. Sundaray, Senior Scientist, CIFA; Dr. Suchitra from the Department of Health; Jagadish Sahu, Assistant Director, MSME; Ratikanta Nayak, Chief Manager (Corporate Communication), Paradip Port Authority; Dr. Laxmidhar Behera from the Regional Institute of Education; Abhishek Mandal, Deputy Director, MY Bharat, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; Subhendu Kumar Nayak of NALCO; A.S. Kaber, Youth Officer, NSS Regional Directorate, Bhubaneswar; A.K. Bhuyan, Assistant Director, Khadi and Village Industries Commission; Dr. S.N. Pattnaik, Deputy Director, News Division, Akashvani Cuttack; and Sasmita Paikaray, Field Publicity Officer, Regional Office, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Bhubaneswar.

Pradeep Kumar Choudhary, Member Secretary of IMPCC and Assistant Director, Central Bureau of Communication, welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of coordinated outreach efforts in amplifying the impact of government programmes. Members also deliberated on the theme and agenda for the next IMPCC meeting.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by M.P. Jena, Assistant Director, PIB Bhubaneswar.
