Odisha’s clean energy ambitions received a major boost with the
inauguration of the Global Cleantech Expo Odisha at the IDCO Exhibition Ground,
where MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik underscored the urgent need for a rapid
transition to sustainable power, declaring that clean energy is essential to
“secure our Earth” and ensure long-term ecological and economic resilience.
Inaugurating the two-day summit as Chief Guest, the Minister said the
state government is aligning industrial growth with environmental protection
through its “5J” framework — Jal, Jungle, Jami, Jiba Jantu, and Jana Sadharan —
aimed at balancing development with conservation. Stressing the scale of the
challenge posed by climate change, he called for collective action from
industry, policymakers, and innovators to accelerate the adoption of renewable
technologies across sectors.
Highlighting the role of small and medium enterprises in the green
transition, Minister Mallik said Odisha is providing subsidies, credit
guarantees, and policy incentives to encourage MSMEs to embrace clean energy
solutions. “We want every home to be solarised,” he said, noting that nearly
5,000 MSMEs are already engaged in the clean energy ecosystem in the state,
ranging from solar manufacturing and installation to energy-efficient
technologies and battery solutions.
The expo has drawn participation from more than 200 companies
representing over 20 countries, including Australia, Germany, France, and the
United States, marking one of the largest cleantech gatherings in eastern
India. Bringing together industry leaders, investors, startups, regulators, and
researchers, the event positions Odisha as an emerging destination for clean
energy manufacturing and innovation.
The inaugural session opened with welcome remarks by Debi Prasad Dash,
Executive Director of the NetZero Energy Transition Association, who said the
platform is accelerating investment, partnerships, and technology transfer in
the region. Senior industry voices echoed this sentiment, with Amlan Kanti Das
of Luminous Power Technologies describing Odisha as a strategic hub for
advanced energy storage, citing its access to critical minerals and the
company’s planned expansion on 30 acres of land in the state.
Senior officials from the state’s power and renewable ecosystem,
including Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency, GRIDCO, and TP Central
Odisha Distribution Limited, outlined ongoing efforts to modernise the grid,
scale up renewable procurement, and integrate emerging technologies such as
battery energy storage systems and smart distribution networks.
Odisha’s long-term roadmap — targeting 10 GW of renewable capacity along
with investments in green hydrogen, electric mobility, floating solar,
agro-photovoltaics, tidal energy, and advanced storage — featured prominently
in the discussions. The expo also served as a regional hub, connecting
stakeholders from Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and
Chhattisgarh, thereby expanding the clean energy market footprint beyond state
boundaries.
Leading companies including Saatvik Green Energy, Navitas Solar, Novasys
Greenergy, Australian Premium Solar, Gautam Solar, Pahal Solar, Eastman Auto
& Power, Trontek, Galo Energy, JD Solar and Latteys Industries showcased
solutions spanning solar modules, inverters, EV charging infrastructure, and
grid-scale storage. Dedicated pavilions displayed innovations in green
hydrogen, smart grids, and next-generation battery systems, while academic
institutions presented research on decarbonisation pathways and energy
efficiency.
Organisers expect the event to attract more than 10,000 business visitors
and over 1,000 conference delegates, with CXO roundtables, policy dialogues,
and B2B meetings designed to facilitate investment and collaboration. Workshops
for students and professionals are also being held to build technical capacity
and support workforce development in the clean energy sector.
Industry representatives noted that eastern India’s resource base,
manufacturing potential, and growing energy demand make it a natural hub for
renewable supply chains. By leveraging mineral availability, port connectivity,
and industrial infrastructure, Odisha aims to position itself not only as a
consumer of green power but also as a producer of clean energy technologies.
With strong government backing, rising MSME participation, and increasing
global interest, the Global Cleantech Expo Odisha is expected to catalyse new
projects, accelerate technology adoption, and strengthen the state’s role in
India’s energy transition.
