Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi rolled out a comprehensive development package worth Rs 633 crore for Subarnapur district while attending the Subhadra Shakti Mela at Subarnapur on on Sunday, marking a decisive step towards infrastructure expansion, cultural preservation and inclusive growth.

The Chief Minister began his visit by paying homage at the Samadhi Peeth of Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi at Khaliapali, where he interacted with saints and members of the management committee. Addressing the gathering, he described Santha Kabi Bhima Bhoi as a towering figure who shaped Odisha’s social and spiritual consciousness and announced that the Samadhi Peeth would be comprehensively developed at an estimated cost of Rs 35 crore to honour the saint’s legacy and ideals.

Speaking to the people of Subarnapur, the Chief Minister announced a series of major projects aggregating Rs 633 crore. The most significant among them is the construction of a river-based reservoir at Marudagochha with an investment of Rs 557 crore, aimed at strengthening irrigation and water security in the district. Other key projects include the construction of an open-air theatre at Sanskruti Bhavan at a cost of Rs 11.23 crore, renovation of the historic Gandhi Stadium with an outlay of Rs 25.28 crore, and improvement of the Block Chhak Junction Road with an investment of Rs 4.23 crore.

In addition, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 58 development projects worth Rs 276 crore. Of these, foundation stones were laid for 24 projects amounting to Rs 173 crore, while 34 projects worth Rs 103 crore were inaugurated. These initiatives are expected to significantly strengthen infrastructure across sectors such as roads, drinking water supply, irrigation, education, health services, rural development and urban infrastructure in the district.

A major highlight of the Subhadra Shakti Mela was the disbursement of Rs 126 crore as interest-free loans to 1,848 Self-Help Groups in Subarnapur district. The Chief Minister said the initiative would boost women-led enterprises, promote self-reliance and improve livelihoods by providing SHGs with easier access to capital.

Emphasising inclusive development, the Chief Minister said Odisha’s growth model is focused on empowering the poor, tribal communities, women and youth. He noted that industrial projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore are already operational in Subarnapur and highlighted the district’s vast potential in agriculture, handloom, culture and tourism. He assured that the government would continue its efforts to ensure sustainable prosperity for the region.

During the programme, assistance was also distributed to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes, reinforcing the government’s commitment to development that reaches the grassroots.
