Dhamra Port on Friday marked a major
infrastructure milestone with the commissioning of a new manual railway line
within its project area, a move set to significantly enhance the port’s cargo
handling capacity and logistics efficiency.
The new rail line was formally
inaugurated by Dhamra Port Chief Executive Officer Devendra Thakar, who flagged
off the first train, signalling the start of rail operations on the newly
commissioned stretch. The development adds a fresh chapter to the port’s
expansion journey and underscores its focus on strengthening multimodal
connectivity.
Designed to enable faster and more
efficient evacuation and movement of cargo, the railway line is expected to
reduce turnaround time and improve operational fluidity across the port
ecosystem. By streamlining cargo movement from berth to hinterland, the project
strengthens Dhamra Port’s ability to handle rising volumes with greater
efficiency.
A key gateway on India’s east coast,
Dhamra Port plays a pivotal role in facilitating both domestic and
international trade. The commissioning of the railway line forms an integral
part of the port’s ongoing modernisation and capacity augmentation programme,
aligned with the broader national push to improve logistics infrastructure.
Industry observers note that the
enhanced rail connectivity is likely to generate positive economic spillovers
for Odisha and beyond, improving supply chain efficiency, lowering logistics
costs and supporting higher cargo throughput.
With sustained investments in infrastructure
and connectivity, Dhamra Port continues to reinforce its commitment to India’s
maritime growth, positioning itself as a critical enabler in strengthening the
country’s ambitions as a global trade and logistics hub.
