In a significant leap towards technology-driven railway
security, East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday launched DSC ARJUN, an
Artificial Intelligence-powered robotic surveillance platform designed to
strengthen passenger safety, enhance security operations and provide advanced
technological support to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
The robotic security platform, officially named Dedicated
Security Chassis Advanced Railway Junction Under Network Enabled Surveillance
(DSC ARJUN), was unveiled in the presence of the General Manager of East Coast
Railway, senior railway officials and RPF officers. The initiative marks a
major milestone in ECoR’s vision of creating a smart and technology-enabled
security ecosystem across its railway network.
Powered by cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI),
Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies,
DSC ARJUN is capable of delivering continuous surveillance and intelligent
real-time monitoring across railway stations. Designed as a force multiplier
for the RPF, the robot is equipped with AI-based facial recognition, real-time
crowd analytics, passenger head counting, unattended baggage detection, suspicious
activity detection, live video streaming, public address announcements and
instant alert generation. These advanced capabilities are expected to
significantly improve situational awareness, accelerate decision-making and
facilitate preventive as well as evidence-based policing.
The robot can be deployed across platforms, concourses,
booking offices, waiting halls, circulating areas, parking lots, parcel offices
and other sensitive locations requiring enhanced surveillance. Railway
officials believe it will play a crucial role in monitoring passenger movement
during peak hours, preventing crime, protecting railway assets and assisting
emergency response during fires, medical emergencies and security threats.
East Coast Railway said the initiative builds on earlier efforts to introduce robotic policing in Indian Railways. The journey began in 2020 when Central Railway developed Captain ARJUN during the COVID-19 pandemic to assist frontline railway personnel. Later, East Coast Railway deployed the humanoid robot ASC ARJUN at Visakhapatnam Railway Station on January 23, 2026. DSC ARJUN represents the next phase by combining AI-enabled surveillance with advanced analytics in a comprehensive security platform.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, East Coast Railway said technology is reshaping railway policing and that DSC ARJUN will strengthen the capabilities of RPF personnel by enabling proactive security management, improving situational awareness and enhancing passenger confidence across the railway network. Railway officials said the deployment of DSC ARJUN reflects East Coast Railway's commitment to building a safer, smarter and more passenger-centric railway system while safeguarding critical railway infrastructure.
