Emphasising
that the future of rural products lies not only in quality but also in smart
presentation, a theme-based workshop on “Packaging for Market Success:
Enhancing Shelf Life of Rural Products, Branding and Strengthening
Competitiveness” was organised on the fourth day of the ongoing SISIR
SARAS–2026 fair at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar. The daily
workshops at the fair are being held with a focused objective of strengthening
the rural economy by equipping producers with market-ready skills.
The workshop
was conducted by ORMAS with technical support from the Indian Institute of
Packaging (IIP), Mumbai. Addressing the participants, IIP experts Dr. Baburao
Guduri and Dr. Subodh Jaikar underlined that scientific and innovative
packaging plays a crucial role in extending shelf life, ensuring product
safety, creating an attractive brand identity and enhancing overall consumer
appeal in competitive markets.
Self-help
groups, producer groups, rural entrepreneurs and other stakeholders from
different districts participated enthusiastically in the sessions. The experts
shared practical insights on modern packaging techniques, adoption of
cost-effective and labour-intensive packaging materials, adherence to labeling
standards and the preparation of products aligned with market demand.
The workshop
aimed to strengthen the marketing capabilities of rural producers and enable
their products to compete effectively at state and national levels. By focusing
on value addition through packaging and branding, the initiative seeks to open
new market opportunities, improve incomes and reinforce livelihoods, thereby
contributing significantly to the growth of the rural economy.
