Odisha reverberated with devotional fervour on Monday as people across the State celebrated Ganesh Puja with traditional rituals, colourful decorations and cultural programmes, seeking the blessings of Lord Ganesh, revered as the remover of obstacles and the deity of wisdom and success.

From temples and educational institutions to community pandals, the festival brought together people in both urban and rural areas. Elaborately decorated puja venues, devotional songs and cultural performances added to the festive atmosphere.

In Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, intricately decorated pandals featuring artistically crafted idols of Lord Ganesh attracted large gatherings of devotees. Schools and colleges also marked the occasion with special prayers and cultural events, with students and teachers participating in the celebrations.

For students, Ganesh Puja holds a particular significance as Lord Ganesh is worshipped as the deity of knowledge and wisdom. Several educational institutions organised special prayers seeking divine blessings for academic excellence, success and a bright future.

Community celebrations added another dimension to the festival, with special rituals, cultural programmes and community feasts bringing residents together and strengthening the spirit of fellowship.

The festival also offered a showcase of Odisha’s rich craft traditions. Idol makers in Cuttack, Khordha, Puri and Berhampur had worked for several weeks to create idols in a variety of designs and styles. Their intricate craftsmanship emerged as one of the major attractions at several puja venues, highlighting the artistic skills passed down through generations.

The festive rush was also visible in markets across the State, where people purchased flowers, fruits, sweets and decorative items. Shops witnessed increased activity as families and community groups made preparations for the celebrations.

Meanwhile, authorities stepped up security and traffic-management measures in major towns to facilitate the smooth and peaceful conduct of the festival. With devotion, artistic expression and community participation coming together, Ganesh Puja once again emerged as a vibrant celebration of Odisha’s cultural and social traditions.
