Dalmia Bharat Foundation, in partnership with the Wockhardt Foundation, has relaunched its Mobile Medical Unit at the Dalmia Cement–Kapilas Cement Manufacturing Works plant in Tangi to deliver essential primary and preventive healthcare services to communities living in the plant’s surrounding areas. The initiative seeks to bridge the critical healthcare access gap in remote and underserved rural pockets by bringing medical services directly to the doorstep of residents.

First launched in 2014, the Mobile Medical Unit had emerged as a vital healthcare lifeline, serving over 1,800 patients every month until 2024. Its reinstatement follows strong demand from local communities, underscoring the trust and dependence built over a decade of consistent service delivery.

The revived unit is equipped with a qualified medical team comprising a doctor, nurse and pharmacist, and will provide basic diagnostics, medical consultations and treatment. In addition to routine care, the unit will facilitate referrals to higher healthcare centres for critical cases and conduct regular health awareness sessions, with special emphasis on seasonal illnesses and tuberculosis prevention.

The relaunch event was attended by Pankaj Gupta, Unit Head, KCW; Sudhir Ranjan Mohanty, Head HR, KCW; and Gulzarilal Biswas, State Head, Wockhardt Foundation, along with members of the Dalmia Bharat Foundation team, local sarpanch and panchayat representatives, and plant officials.

Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Pankaj Gupta said the return of the Mobile Medical Unit reflects DBF’s sustained focus on community-centric development. “Access to timely and basic healthcare continues to be a challenge in many rural pockets,” said Gupta. He noted that the overwhelming response from villagers after the service pause reaffirmed the tangible impact the unit has created over the years. He also expressed satisfaction at continuing the meaningful collaboration with Wockhardt Foundation to strengthen last-mile healthcare delivery.

The relaunch of the Mobile Medical Unit at Kapilas forms part of Dalmia Bharat Foundation’s broader, long-term efforts to build resilient community healthcare ecosystems across its operational locations. Through sustained partnerships and consistent on-ground interventions, DBF continues to work towards improving access to essential services and enabling healthier lives in rural and underserved regions.
