Jindal Steel has successfully completed its
ambitious 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) expansion at its Angul Integrated
Steel Complex in Odisha by commissioning the third Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF-3)
with a capacity of 3 MTPA. With this milestone, the Angul plant’s crude steel
capacity has doubled to 12 MTPA, placing it among India’s largest
single-location integrated steel manufacturing facilities and reinforcing the
country’s growing industrial strength.
The expansion marks the full
operationalisation of BOF-2 and BOF-3, along with key upstream and downstream
infrastructure such as coke ovens, the Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) complex and
allied facilities, ensuring seamless integration and faster ramp-up of
production. The project has been executed within the planned timeframe,
underscoring the company’s strong execution capabilities and commitment to
capacity enhancement aligned with future demand.
Following the expansion at Angul, the
company’s overall crude steel capacity has increased to 15.6 MTPA, including
3.6 MTPA at its Raigarh facility. The enhanced scale is expected to boost
production volumes, improve capacity utilisation and generate operating
leverage benefits, enabling stronger revenue growth and improved margins
through optimised cost efficiencies.
The expanded capacity also strengthens
domestic steel availability, supporting infrastructure development and
manufacturing growth in line with India’s nation-building priorities and the
vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. With higher integration and scale advantages,
Jindal Steel is strategically positioned to enhance competitiveness, drive
profitability and contribute significantly to the country’s industrial
expansion and self-reliance agenda.
