The Sport Climbing
Summer Camp 2026 concluded on an inspiring note with a vibrant closing ceremony
at the Climbing Wall of Kalinga Stadium. Organised by the Odisha Tata Steel
Adventure Foundation Sport Climbing High Performance Center (HPC) in
collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Services, Government of
Odisha, the two-week intensive programme successfully introduced young
participants to the rapidly emerging world of adventure sports.
Held from May 5 to
May 19, 2026, the camp engaged enthusiastic youth across multiple age groups.
The programme focused on imparting essential climbing skills, physical
conditioning, advanced techniques and safety protocols under the guidance of
certified national instructors and performance coaches.
The closing ceremony
witnessed the presence of eminent leaders and experts from the sports and
academic communities. Among those present were Dr. Yeddula Vijay, Bijay Swain,
CEO HPCO and Additional Secretary Sports, Ashok Panda, Additional Secretary
Sports, Amit Kumar Nayak, Deputy Secretary Sports, Dhiraj Pattanaik, OSD
Sports, Secretary Sports Saswat Kumar Rout and Sonali Subhadarshini, OSD
Sports.
The event also
brought together distinguished personalities from the climbing and academic
fraternity, including Manoj Kumar Dakua, Odisha’s first national sport climber
and participant in the 2018 Asian Games Selection Camp, who possesses more than
12 years of professional experience. Chitrabhanu Chaudhuri, Assistant Professor
of Mathematics at NISER Bhubaneswar and an experienced climber with 13 years of
technical expertise, also attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries lauded the collaboration between the High Performance Centre and the Sports Department in creating strong pathways for adventure sports development. They highlighted sport climbing’s expanding global recognition as an Olympic discipline and encouraged youngsters to channel the physical endurance, discipline and mental resilience gained during the camp into a competitive sporting lifestyle.
To acknowledge their dedication and commitment, all young participants were presented with official certificates of merit and completion during the ceremony. The successful conclusion of the Sport Climbing Summer Camp 2026 reflects the Government of Odisha’s continued commitment to nurturing sporting talent and strengthening the state’s sporting ecosystem through world-class infrastructure at Kalinga Stadium.
