National Commission
for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya K. Rahatkar on Thursday lauded the Kalinga
Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) as an “incredible” institution and called
upon its girl students to dream big, seize every opportunity and emerge as
inspiring examples of women’s empowerment. Describing KISS as more than an
educational institution, she said its transformative work had brought new hope
and opportunities to thousands of tribal children.
Rahatkar made the
remarks during her visit to the KISS campus, where she interacted with students
and took part in a felicitation ceremony. She appreciated the institution’s
disciplined functioning and its comprehensive facilities for education,
accommodation, sports and the overall development of students.
Addressing the girl
students, the NCW Chairperson said studying at an institution like KISS was a
great opportunity for tribal children. She urged them to make the best use of
the facilities and opportunities available to them, work hard to realise their
aspirations and strive to make their institution, Odisha and the country proud.
Rahatkar said the
world-class institution had been built through the immense affection and
dedication of KIIT, KISS and KIMS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta towards tribal
children. KISS, she observed, was not merely an educational institution but a
movement that had transformed the lives of thousands of tribal students by
opening new avenues for their education and development.
She also lauded the
facilities and opportunities provided at KISS, particularly in the areas of
education, residential care, sports and holistic development, describing them
as highly commendable.
Dr. Achyuta Samanta
welcomed the NCW Chairperson and expressed his gratitude for her visit to KIIT
and KISS and for interacting with the students. He highlighted the National
Commission for Women’s continued efforts to safeguard and advance the rights,
safety and empowerment of women across the country.
Following her tour of
the KIIT and KISS campuses, Rahatkar reiterated her appreciation of the
institution and its student-centric approach.
The programme featured a campus felicitation ceremony and an interaction with students. Prof. Nayantara Padhi, Professor, School of Management Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), also addressed the gathering, while KISS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh delivered the presidential address.
Dr. P. K. Routray, Registrar and CEO, KISS, was among those present.
