In an effort to raise
awareness about kidney health and promote early detection of kidney diseases,
Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar has launched an innovative city-wide public
awareness initiative titled “K&D Performance Review.” The campaign, organised
to mark World Kidney Day, aims to encourage people to monitor their kidney
health regularly and prioritise preventive screening.
The campaign was
officially launched on March 12 from the hospital premises, where visitors
participated in an interactive session designed to help people better
understand how well their kidneys are functioning. Participants also had the
opportunity to get their basic health parameters checked while interacting with
medical experts about kidney health, risk factors and preventive care.
Adding a creative and
engaging element to the campaign, the hospital introduced two mascots — Kid and
Ney — who will visit high-footfall locations across Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for
a week. The mascots will carry QR codes that visitors can scan to answer a few
simple questions and learn whether their kidneys may be due for a “performance
review,” making kidney health awareness more accessible and interactive for the
public.
To translate
awareness into meaningful action, the hospital has also introduced tailor-made
kidney screening packages for individuals who complete the Kidney Risk
Assessment. The screening packages — available at Basic, Intermediate and
Advanced levels—are designed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of kidney
health and will remain valid until March 31, 2026.
The initiative will
be led by a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including Dr. Manas Ranjan
Pradhan, Dr. Subodh Das, Dr. Saiprasad Sahoo, and Dr. Sukanto Kishore Das.
Doctors at Manipal
Hospital Bhubaneswar highlighted that, “Many kidney diseases progress silently
and are often detected only at an advanced stage Therefore, ‘K&D
Performance Review’ campaign is aiming to make kidney health easier for people
to understand and track, much like reviewing performance indicators in everyday
life. By encouraging individuals to review their Kidney Performance Indicators
through regular screening and preventive care, we hope to help the community
identify risks early and take proactive steps to protect their kidney health.”
Through this
initiative, the hospital hopes to shift public attention from treatment to
prevention by making kidney health awareness simple, engaging and accessible
for communities across the region.
