In a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions from the cement industry, the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB) has entered into a strategic collaboration with TraceXero Technologies Private Limited to support the development of advanced carbon capture technologies for the cement and construction materials sector.

The agreement was signed on March 10, 2026, at NCB Ballabgarh by Joint Director and Secretary of NCB, Dr. S. K. Chaturvedi, and Co-founder of TraceXero Technologies, Reetam Chaudhury, in the presence of Director General of NCB, Dr. L. P. Singh, along with Heads of Centres and Service Groups of NCB.

NCB, an apex research and development organisation under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has partnered with the Indian technology start-up TraceXero, which focuses on industrial decarbonisation and carbon capture solutions and is incubated at NCB. The collaboration aims to facilitate the development, technical validation, and potential commercialisation of advanced Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technologies tailored for the cement industry.

The cement industry remains one of the critical pillars supporting infrastructure development and economic growth worldwide. However, it also contributes nearly seven per cent of global carbon dioxide emissions and is widely regarded as a hard-to-abate sector due to its process-related emissions. In this context, Carbon Capture and Utilisation has emerged as a key technological pathway to help the sector move toward Net Zero targets.

Under the collaboration, TraceXero is advancing an innovative technology that captures CO using a proprietary solvent-based process. The captured carbon dioxide is then converted into graphitic carbon and eventually graphene, transforming industrial emissions into potentially high-value material resources instead of waste streams.

NCB has long been engaged in research, technology development, and industrial services for the cement and construction materials sector in India. With its network of laboratories, pilot facilities, and deep technical expertise, the organisation provides scientific and technical support to industry, academia, and emerging technology developers.

Through collaborations with start-ups and technology innovators, NCB aims to strengthen the development and validation of next-generation solutions that can help the cement sector address sustainability challenges while maintaining productivity and global competitiveness.
