The National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday reported a robust 23 per cent year-on-year growth in consolidated net profit at ₹2,578 crore for the second quarter of FY27, compared to ₹2,098.5 crore in the corresponding period last year, marking a strong financial performance in its first quarterly results post-listing.

The exchange's revenue from operations rose 10.6 per cent to ₹4,066.8 crore during the July-September quarter of FY27, against the year-ago period. However, on a sequential basis, revenue declined nearly 10.8 per cent, primarily due to a moderation in income from transaction charges, the largest contributor to its overall revenue.

Revenue from transaction charges stood at ₹3,035 crore in the September quarter, registering a decline of 16 per cent from ₹3,623 crore in the preceding quarter. Nevertheless, the revenue was higher than the ₹2,789 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

The sequential moderation in transaction-related income weighed on the exchange's overall revenue performance, even as its year-on-year profitability continued to register healthy growth.

Meanwhile, the exchange's contribution to the exchequer stood at ₹41,234 crore during the first half of FY27, underlining its significant contribution to government revenues.

In a separate development, the NSE board on Tuesday approved the divestment of a 40 per cent stake in the newly established National Coal Exchange of India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the exchange.

The proposed divestment will be undertaken through a secondary sale of the subsidiary's equity shares in one or more tranches, the exchange said.
