ROURKELA, NOVEMBER 3, 2026

The New Plate Mill (NPM) of Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has scripted a remarkable performance in October 2026, setting multiple all-time records in steel plate dispatch and production.

The mill achieved its highest-ever monthly dispatch of 1,03,462 tonnes during October, comfortably surpassing its previous best of 93,527 tonnes recorded in March 2026. The record-breaking performance also included an all-time high road dispatch of 17,284 tonnes during the month.

As part of its sustained logistics drive, the mill loaded 474 trailers and 1,354 wagons, maintaining an impressive daily average of 15 trailers and 43 wagons. The focused efforts to accelerate stock movement also helped bring down the opening inventory from 32,116 tonnes on October 1 to 22,335 tonnes by the end of the month, registering a significant reduction of 9,781 tonnes, or 30.5 per cent.

The dispatch milestone was achieved through close coordination and seamless collaboration among the New Plate Mill Shipping team and the Production Planning and Control (PPC), Research and Control Laboratory (RCL), and Traffic and Raw Materials (T&RM) departments.

Matching its impressive dispatch performance, the mill also registered new benchmarks in rolling operations. It rolled a record 9,041 slabs during October, surpassing its previous all-time high of 8,809 slabs achieved in March 2026.

The total plate production touched 93,239 tonnes, marking the highest-ever October production and exceeding the previous October record of 87,793 tonnes achieved in 2025.

Maintaining a strong operational tempo throughout the month, the mill recorded an average rolling rate of 292 slabs per day. Notably, it crossed the 300-slab daily rolling mark on as many as 20 days during October, reflecting sustained operational efficiency and productivity.

The multiple records underline the New Plate Mill's growing operational capabilities, efficient logistics management and strong inter-departmental coordination, further reinforcing Rourkela Steel Plant's contribution to SAIL's steel production and dispatch performance.
