Reinforcing its commitment to quality education and the promotion of scientific learning among young minds, NTPC Bongaigaon inaugurated a Mobile Science Lab at Salakati M.E. School in Kokrajhar under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The Mobile Science Lab was inaugurated by Suprava Roy, Additional District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, in the presence of Riju Dutta, Secretary, Seva Bharati Purvanchal, Assam; Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, DGM (Corporate Communication), NTPC Bongaigaon; Sandita Brahma, Principal, Salakati M.E. School; officials of the Education Department, representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal, teachers, students and members of the local community.

Implemented at an approximate cost of ₹58 lakh, the initiative aims to strengthen science education by bringing practical and activity-based learning directly to schools. The project seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical classroom teaching and hands-on experimentation, particularly in educational institutions with limited laboratory infrastructure. The programme has commenced in Kokrajhar district in its first phase and will subsequently expand to schools across Chirang and Bongaigaon districts. Over a period of one year, the Mobile Science Lab is expected to reach 60 schools and benefit nearly 30,000 students through interactive demonstrations, scientific experiments and curriculum-aligned learning activities.

Equipped with scientific models, experiment kits and advanced educational tools, the Mobile Science Lab has been designed to make science learning more engaging, accessible and enjoyable for students. The initiative is expected to foster curiosity, critical thinking and innovation while enhancing students’ understanding of scientific concepts through practical exposure and experiential learning.

Speaking on the occasion, Suprava Roy appreciated NTPC Bongaigaon for undertaking the initiative and highlighted the importance of experiential learning in developing a scientific outlook among students. She observed that early exposure to practical science can inspire curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills, encouraging students to explore future opportunities in science, technology and innovation.

Representatives of Seva Bharati Purvanchal explained the operational framework of the project and emphasized that the Mobile Science Lab would enable students from rural and semi-urban schools to witness scientific principles in action and actively participate in experiments, thereby significantly enriching classroom learning.

The dignitaries also interacted with the students and expressed confidence that the Mobile Science Lab would play a vital role in nurturing scientific curiosity, creativity and innovation among young learners across the region.

Education continues to remain one of the key focus areas of NTPC Bongaigaon’s CSR initiatives. Through impactful projects such as the Mobile Science Lab, NTPC Bongaigaon is creating meaningful learning opportunities for students and contributing towards building a stronger foundation for future generations through knowledge, innovation and skill development.
